Robert Pattinson will be seducing Christina Ricci in Bel Ami

Robert Pattinson will be seducing Christina Ricci in a new film Bel Ami, Production Weekly have announced.

The film is an adaptation of Guy de Maupassant’s story in which the Twilight star will play cold hearted lothario George Duroy, a young and impoverished Parisian journalist who becomes one of the city’s most successful men.
His success however is down to his ruthless seduction Paris’s most glamorous and influential women.

Those powerful women include Uma Thurman, who plays the wife of a friend, who later goes on to marry Duroy and Kristin Scott Thomas as a socialite who falls for his charms.
Christina Ricci will star as Clotilde de Marelle, a friend who turns her attentions to Duroy during her husband’s prolonged absences.

Bel Ami is set to be released in 2011.

Uma Thurman about Rob and 'Bel Ami' with MTV

Throughout the course of his first few years in the business, Robert Pattinson has had a great run with quality leading ladies. During MTV News' recent live interview with the star, he joked that he has a special place in his heart for working with "hot girls."

When MTV News caught up with one of the "hot" women in question, Uma Thurman, she laughed off the compliment and turned the praise back toward her co-star and his impressive work in their upcoming period drama, "Bel Ami."

"Robert Pattinson is, I think, going to be a really serious actor," Thurman said while promoting her new movie "Ceremony." "I think he's incredibly concrete in his presence on the set and obviously is very handsome. [He] is a very nice person and he's sensitive. He's present. ... He's a really good actor."

Thurman went on to say that while a lot of attention is focused on his attractiveness, he was very professional during filming and held his own with all the women who appear in "Bel Ami."

"Yes, he's extremely dashing, like an old-world movie star," Thurman admitted. "[But] he's got a lot of weight to him. I don't think he was knocked down by all the women they threw at him [during the filming of 'Bel Ami'], which I think is probably lucky for him."

Speaking to Pattinson's comments that we might see a lot of his bum in "Bel Ami," Thurman revealed she was not privy to any RPattz nakedness.

"I didn't see his bum once!" she said, laughing. "So I can't tell you about it. I don't know what happened to him with other characters, I have no idea, to tell you the truth," she said, adding that just because she didn't see it, doesn't mean it won't be in the film. "I haven't seen the film cut together, so there may or may not be Robert's bum."

Video: Uma Thurman Talks about 'Bel Ami'

Almost a year ago we posted the first images from Bel Ami. However, since that time, news on the Robert Pattinson film has been rather quiet.

A brief refresher: slated for a 2011 release, Bel Ami follows Georges Duroy (Pattinson), a nineteenth-century French journalist who ascends Paris’ social ladder through a number of manipulative trists with talented and influential women. The film is based on Guy De Maupassant’s celebrated 1885 novel and will be helmed by noted theatre directors Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod. Uma Thurman and Kristen Scott Thomas co-star and, to the envy of Twifans the world over, be thoroughly taken advantage of by Pattinson. Thurman will play Duroy’s central paramour and ladder rung, Madeleine Forestier, while Thomas will play a socialite who is seduced by the suave, power-hungry protagonist.

This morning at the Ceremony press junket, I got to speak to Uma Thurman about who she plays in Bel Ami and has she seen the movie yet. Hit the jump for her comments.

Before getting to the interview…I managed to see an extended promo for Bel Ami at AFM (American Film Market) back in November and thought the movie looked really promising. In fact, I expected a trailer to be released soon after the market ended. However, with no firm release date, I guess they don’t want to start promoting.
