hollywoodnews.com: I personally didn’t think it would happen until the last round. It would be down to Robert Pattinson and Johnny Depp, just as everyone assumed for last year’s People Magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive” issue.
However, yesterday it was announced that Robert Pattinson was knocked out of the final four in the “Last Real Man in Hollywood” competition by Hugh Jackman.
People have been questioning this contest from the start due to the varying ages of the contestants. What is considered a “man”? The contest started with people as young as 18 (e.g. Taylor Lautner) and as old as 68 (Harrison Ford), or possibly older. Can the difference in decades really be comparable? Many comments asked that the poll be divided into two groups – those under 30 and those over 30 – as there is a certain level of maturity one reaches as they get older.
Sure enough, the final four contestants are all aged 40 years or older – a sure sign that the population believes a “man” is of a certain age.
This begs the question – with all the new, young stars in Hollywood, what do they need to do to achieve “manhood” status? Robert Pattinson has surely shown maturity in most of his actions, and is one of the most popular faces in the world, but isn’t considered a “Man of Hollywood” according to this competition at 24 years old.
